Sorry its be so long since my last post. These last few months have been all kinds of crazy. I think, instead of writing it all out... I will just post tons of pics and write a caption and my thoughts about each one.
'Kayso, here it goes...

One of the first things we did for third term was bald caps. It was such a pain to do, but it was all quite funny to see everyone bald. I fooled a couple of my more gullible friends with this pic... they thought I had cancer. Seriously! I would have thought the goofy look on my face would have given the game away, but apparently not.

This pic is also from term 3 (I think... it all starts to smoosh together after awhile) We had to create a fantasy character using mostly paint skills. My teacher said I had the wrong kind of fantasy. Whatever. I liked it, it rocked, and most importantly, it wasn't being graded so it didn't matter :P Justin was a good sport for letting my apply a goatee on him. I airbrushed all the makeup. I really liked how it turned out.

This was from the same day as the last pic... Justin's work on me. I think it kinda looks like a David Bowie makeup. I thought it was cool, he was frustrated with it. OH well.

I went home for summer break. It was so good to be back and visit with my family. While I was there, I did an old age makeup on my mom. It will most definitely be going in my portfolio. She is coming up to visit me in October and I am going to do a beauty makeup to make her look 10 years younger. It will all go on a page with a before photo and the young and old age makeups... Is gonna be epic.

While I was home, my parents had a big BBQ and pool party at their house for the 4th of July. We celebrated a little early because the 4th was a Sunday and I was traveling back to Vancouver that day. The flag is one my great grandpa had at his gas station in Lake Elsinore, back in the 50's. It is gorgeous.

Sister dear :) Erin and I met up in Seattle and then flew down to California together. We practically lived in the pool while I was visiting.

Term three final exam... I did a Zombie. My Model was so great to work with. I only got a B- on that makeup. Whatever.

Mmmm Brains!

My friend, Kevin. He's from the class behind ours. He's very nice guy. I used this really awesome silicon gun thing I have to create the wolfman scratches on his face. It worked really well!

This is a sculpt I did on a maquette head of an old guy. It turned out well I think :) Glad I remembered to take a picture, because I destroyed it to use the clay for something else...

This was at the beginning of term 4. Our entire class pretty much worked on a calendar that showcased yoga moves and body painting. All the proceeds go to charities that help endangered species. So, all the people in the calendar were painted to look like an endangered animal. I worked on the Grey Wolf with Susan Manning. The night of the shoot rolled around, and our model didn't show up... Luckily, one of the other artists had a friend with her that offered to step in. Megan saved our lives! She was such a trooper and did a great job with the photoshoot.

Towards the middle to end of term 4, we start making prosthetics. We begin with small stuff like individual little cuts, scars, moles, etc. then we move onto noses and then end the term with a full face prosthetic. Sarah and I are modeling our prosthetic noses. :)

My term 4 final project was Pinocchio! It was so fun to work with Devon. I really liked how mine turned out! I hope my teachers like it too... as of today we still haven't received our grades back on them yet. Grr

Devon made me into a Gremlin! She made me an entire suit that looked like gnarly nasty skin. I loved the mohawk the best :)

SO.... here we are all caught up and onto term 5! The second day of the new term we were thrown right into everything by making a full head cast.... the following pics are of that whole process. This pic is of me getting ready t be covered in alginate.

Me and Sara Huggins :) hehe I have no idea what is going on around me. It can be disconcerting to some, mostly I find it rather relaxing.

Once the alginate has been poured and smooshed into all my little cracks and crevices, the bandages are applied over the alginate to preserve the alginate, since it is a very pliable material, it needs a firm shell to keep its integrity. Leah is being silly ;)

Once I have been released from the cast, I have to prepare the cast and pour liquid plaster into the mold. This will create the statue of my head and shoulders.

The finished product! After the plaster hardens, I peel away the bandages and alginate and reveal the cast underneath... Its not perfect at this point. I still have to clean up all the little plaster warts and sand down all the rough edges.

'Kayso... Once its been cleaned up its ready to be sculpted on. I am making an elemental/sprite/imp/pixie thing of some sort... it will have little antennae as well as hand punched hairs and possibly a couple little lights. The little one is my maquette head that I made a mock up of what I wanted the full size mask to look like.
SO, that's what I have been up to lately. Hopefully I will have more progress to report on my mask soon, and I'll try to keep this updated a little better. Anywho... talk to ya later!
Tannis,
